This course establishes the theoretical foundation of museums studies for students interested in pursuing future work and advanced studies in museums, particularly history ones. Lectures, class discussions, meetings with professionals, and other activities introduce students to current practices and debates in the museum profession. Topics include the history and philosophy of museums; the social, economic, and political context that shapes museums; and the main functions of and practices in museums – collection and care of objects, exhibitions, interpretation, education, marketing, development, and governance.
